Junior League of Mobile Hosts Free Diaper Drive-Thru Community Event

(MOBILE, AL) The Junior League of Mobile (JLM) announces its Diaper Bank Distribution Drive-thru event, occurring Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Junior League of Mobile headquarters located at 57 North Sage Avenue in Mobile, AL. This event is free to the public.

JLM’s Diaper Distribution Drive-thru event will provide diapers to the community at no charge. Recipients can drive through the JLM headquarters parking lot to receive a bundle of diapers. Volunteers will grant one package per car. JLM will distribute a range of diaper sizes. The event lasts until 12 p.m. or until diapers inventory is distributed.

JLM is a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, and the only diaper bank in Mobile participating in this national affiliate program. The JLM Diaper Bank program puts 55,000 to 75,000 diapers into the community on average annually, addressing a critical need for local families. JLM distributes diapers through several community partners, many of which will be on site at the drive-thru event. These partners help distribute diapers and also offer other critical needs for families such as food and pantry help, counseling, and other care services.

Diaper need affects the health of children as well as the security and wellbeing of the family. Some of the realities and impacts include the following:

  • Diapers are expensive – a month’s supply can cost $100. One in two American families struggles to afford diapers.
  • Most childcare centers require parents to provide diapers every day their baby attends. Without these diapers, babies can’t go to daycare, which means parents can’t work.
  • Babies without clean diapers are exposed to serious health risks and are less likely to be accepted to daycares, leaving parents unable to attend work.
  • The National Diaper Bank Network’s research found on average 5.1 workdays were missed a month due to lack of diapers which represents an estimated loss of about $300 a month for a parent earning minimum wage.
  • Loss of income perpetuates a cycle of need that can be changed.

Diaper need has a huge impact on our community. JLM actively provides community partners tens of thousands of diapers every year to help meet the need in the community. JLM’s Diaper Bank and this drive thru event work to fill this need.

Citizens and community businesses and organizations can help by becoming a Diaper Sponsor. Provide a week, a month, three months, or a year of diapers to a child in need: https://loom.ly/-D4YwSo
