Letter from the President

WELCOME TO THE 2023-24 LEAGUE YEAR!

Shellie B. Teague,  2023-2024 President

It is with great pride and joy that we continue to uphold the legacy of our esteemed organization, founded nearly 93 years ago. Over the decades, the Junior League of Mobile has witnessed countless triumphs, surmounted challenges, and paved the way for women to lead with purpose, compassion, and resilience.

The JLM mission states that we are “an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.”

Our legacy projects alone are shining examples of our mission in action. United Cerebral Palsy, the Mobile Public Library Bookmobile, the Exploreum, Mobile Arts Council, and so many other organizations exist because of the hard work and vision of the women who have come before us.

We are proud of our history, but excited about what is to come. We are just seven years away from celebrating our Centennial Anniversary and plans are being developed now for that year-long celebration. Our members are getting ready to launch another impactful Endowment Campaign, with a goal of reaching $1 million dollars by our 100th year. We are conducting research to determine issues and needs in our area so we can develop our next community impact area. We are nurturing a premier membership experience where every member not only feels they belong, but understands how important they are to our organization and flourishes as a growing leader.

As you can see, our future is bright and when we work together, our impact is powerful!

This year, I gave every member of our leadership team a copy of Dare to Lead by Brenè Brown. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading this book, I highly recommend it. We are working every day to lead courageously–but in order to do so, we have to rumble with our own vulnerability.

We are choosing courage in all we do this year – and now is the time for us to be forward-facing and focus on the difference we can make together.

I encourage you to engage fully in the opportunities that lie ahead, to collaborate with your fellow members, and to seize every chance to learn and grow. Thank you for being an essential part of our organization’s story, and I look forward to working with you in pursuit of our shared vision.

If you are a member of our community, I ask that you consider supporting JLM with your resources. Every dollar received goes directly to fund our mission and support our community programming. We love working with other nonprofits to make our collective impact stronger.

I’m humbled and honored to serve as the Junior League of Mobile President and to be part of this legacy of tremendous servant leaders!

Sincerely,
Shellie B. Teague
2023-2024 JLM President
