Diversity Proclamation
The Mobile community now celebrates its diversity; publicly and annually through a city-wide day of Diversity, Outreach, and Inclusion. The first year of this annual event celebration occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Junior League of Mobile (JLM) received the Mayor's proclamation establishing a city-wide Diversity, Outreach, and Inclusion day at the city council meeting on Tuesday, April 1. JLM has long been a community partner in our area, working to assist local agencies and bring worthwhile service and outreach to our broad and diverse area. In presenting this idea, JLM invited the City of Mobile to share the spirit of our reaching out statement...The Junior League of Mobile reaches out to all races, religion, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to volunteerism. Because of scheduling conflicts, the Junior League of Mobile (JLM) Youth Pen Award and Writer’s Workshop on April 19, 2008 has been canceled. The event and award are part of our “Appreciating the Arts” campaign. The purpose of the program is to enhance writing skills and inspire a creative voice in the student. JLM is rescheduling the event for the fall of 2008. Additional information will be made available as it is confirmed. JLM has invited well-respected author Watt Key to help the students find their voice. Watt Key will be discussing his novel Alabama Moon and using examples from the work.
