History

Seconds on Sage, the Junior League of Mobile (JLM) resale shop, is the oldest JLM fundraiser and community service program.  The shop began in 1935 as a thrift store, and in 1968, JLM moved the store to a new location and changed the name to The Green Gate. The Green Gate burned in 1973, however JLM persevered and opened a new location in Crichton in June 1974. Shop profits steadily increased, and in 1985 the shop was renamed The Good Buy Shop. In 1990, the shop moved to Old Shell Road where it would stay for the next three years. Then a new location was found closer to headquarters on Sage Avenue, and in June of 1993, the new shop opened to great success with an annual Toy Sale. In 2000, a new relationship with Stein Mart developed and along with it, the Stein Mart Style Exchange. In 2004, when the shop was re-designed and painted, Seconds on Sage was born along with the new tag line: “Some things are better the second time around!” In the summer of 2007, Seconds on Sage was given another facelift providing a shopping experience that before we could only imagine.

Seconds on Sage continues its 75-year history to raise funds and provide a service to the community by selling gently worn clothes, accessories, house wares, furniture and toys at reasonable prices. JLM members and the community donate the items that are sold at Seconds on Sage.

October 2012 Seconds on Sage closed their doors and has transitioned into our annual Project Rummage Sale. Look for updated information on the Project Rummage Page!
