What is your current placement in JLM?
I am Arrangements Chair – which means I am responsible for setup and take down before and after membership meetings. The Arrangements Chair is also responsible for the food at each meeting.
How important do you think the training aspect of JLM’s mission is to members and yourself in particular?
The training aspect is huge! JLM is an organization that not only cares about its members because of the valuable assets they offer as individuals, but it also values those members enough to invest time, money, and resources to help us become all that we can be. I am offered opportunities to do as much or as little as I want. In addition, when I was ready and willing to take on more responsibilities as I did this year, they offered me training to help me understand the importance of my role as a chair within JLM. The opportunities to participate in training offered by JLM, which would be beneficial personally and professionally, are endless!
Do you feel that the training you have received with JLM in your current position will help you in future endeavors?
Absolutely! I have learned more about the needs of our community by being at headquarters more frequently and talking to other women who are so committed to helping others. I have learned I can make a difference in someone’s life even if that someone is a fellow league member. I have learned to laugh more at obstacles that occur and how to implement plan C when there wasn’t even a plan B. I have learned more about trusting in God to help me get over those obstacles that seemed so big at the time but that He was taking care of all along. He has truly shown me through this placement not to worry about every little thing.
What is the greatest lesson that you have learned this year in your current position?
The greatest lesson I have learned is how big the hearts of these women at JLM really are. I am brought to tears almost every time I am at our headquarters by comments made by truly caring, giving women. I see how kind and eager the other women with whom I work are to server their counterparts. We have several types of positions within Arrangements; yet I really have to sit back and think about who is serving in what position at the end of the day because they are all there to help each other, all there to have fun, all there to get to know new people, all there because they care and want to make a difference. I thank God for allowing me to be a part of such a beautiful group of women. Yes, they are all pretty; but, more than that, they all have an inner beauty that speaks for itself.
